The African livestock trade fair first was launched in 2016 at the Afri Dome in Parys where it was hosted in September of each year until 2019. The event offers stands and exhibition space to input suppliers to market their products to the livestock industry that attend the event. More than 7 000 people passed through the gates in 2019.

A partnership was formed with Nampo to form a new event, Nampo/ALFA that would be hosted at Nampo Park, in Bothaville in the Free State on the first weekend of the September school holidays. The livestock event would be combined with a hunting and outdoor expo and the new event would be known as Nampo/ALFA livestock, hunting and outdoor.
